Mariastein: Pilgrims Way in Tyrol
The place of pilgrimage: Mariastein
There are a number of Pilgrim’s ways in Tyrol: Mariastein is home to the impressive Pilgrim’s Church Mariastein, located directly next to your four star hotel: Mariasteiner Hof and home to a most beloved and worshipped baroque jewel.
In the year 1460 the Lords of Ebbs built a chapel and placed a most lovely Statue of the Holy Mary in it. 100 years later Lord Karl von Schlurff bought the chapel and brought the statue of Mary to Bavaria. The legends states that the statue returned back to its original place the next day. The Lord tried without luck to bring the statue to Bavaria. It always mysteriously returned to Mariastein. This wonder turned the chapel into a pilgrim’s church. Since the 16th century Mariastein counts amongst the most popular places for pilgrimages in Tyrol.
